Overall feelings for drupal

I am glad that we used drupal for this course becuase it made me see a different side of webpage design. I think I liked it better than dreamweaver becuase it is easy to use and the codes are even easier. I think that this is someting that I could use in the future after I graduate.

Views

This module can also be used to help set up panels. This is a good module to have becuase it helps make your panels work even better. With veiws it can help you better make columns and make your website look more perfessional.

Panels

This was actully one module that I could easily figure out how to use. The way I established this on the website was by using this panal to show my timeline of important events of radio. This was easy to use all you had to do was to go to add content, then you choose panels. They gave you different options on what you wanted to use than you just plug your contact in.

Jplayer and Media

After I tried the Audio and it didn't work I then decided to use Jplayer and Media. I had no luck with these either, and I also could not find any informaton on how to get it to work. Since I could not work with the audio modules, I ended up loading the podcast on a website called archive.org, and ended up just embedding the files on the site.

Audio

This module is desinged to help you put audio onto your website which I was going to use to put my podcasts on the website. I could not figure out this module however and it was difficult trying to find helpfull hints on how to work this on the site.

Administration

This module is to help you easily set up navigation and has easy ways for you to format your site. I found this easy becuase since I am new to Drupal it has dropdown menus that help you navigate through your site. This module also was helpfull when it came to format the site.

Marinelli

This was the first template that I choiced to use, however this template just gave me a headache it was hard to use, so I ended up changing to Danland. Danland is so much easier to use and I even found it easy to change the slideshow picture at the beginning of the site.

Drupal

I think drupal will be easy to use, however I did run into one little problem starting out. I choose windows instead of Linucs so when I went to final download the drupal it would not let, once I figure out the problem I was able to start exploring Drupal and it seems like it will be easy to use.

Website

For my website I decided to do the history of radio, becuase I am doing it for my senior capstone project and I feel that it will be a uniques way to put both things into focus. I plan on trying to incorportate podcasts into the website.

Final Podcast Recordings

The recording process was not as bad as I thought it would be and I found the editing was real easy to make and i think that they ended up sounding perfessional. I found a website called Archive.org that allowed me to upload the podcasts since you can not post audio on blogger.

Podcast recordings

While I was recording this podcasts I found it easy for me to write down what I was going to say, and read it as I writing I feel by me wrting down these differnt podcasts becuase I feel that it helped me better uderstand and learn more about the differnt events that I found important on radio. I feel that in the end I found some key moments in the history of radio in America that helped define how radio has changed in America.

The future of radio

As I come to the end of my research for my podcasts, I truly beleve that radio has to be local or it will fail. The reason for this is becuasase now a days people are listen to CD or IPOds and do not listen to radio stations. If a radio station is vocall and is involved with the community then they are most likly to succedd than radio statons that do no do this.

Rules of Radio

I found out that it takes a lot to own and start up a radio station, you first need to set up with a company that host radio and gives them a number based on the frequency of the radio. Then if something goes wrong you need to call for engineers to fix the problem becuase you have to be authorized to work with the radio equipment.

Televison

I found it interesting that radio actuallly financially did better when televsion came into America's living rooms. The reason why radio did better becuase of this was that they were able to save on money that they were spending on radio producitons. The reason for this was before televsion radio was basically radio with radio shows that acted like a televsion sitcom, then once televsion came into play they only had to pay for a disc jockey to be in the studio so it helped them cut costs.

Attack from Mars

I found an interesting event that happened in America with radio during Halloween of 1932. The event that happend was Orson Wells wrote a radio play that described a allien avison on a small farm in New Jersey, the problem was that even though it was a radio play the actors were so convincing that America actually thought that America was being attack. I found this interesting becuase this is somthing that would be hard to do on televison.

World War 1

While doing research for my podcast I found out that even though radio was invented and a part of America, it was actually first used to help with the war effort. The reason radio was used was that they used it to help communicate will the troops overseas. I also found out that amature radio operators were called in for jobs with the government to help them help communicate over seas.

Invention of Radio

While doing research for my podcast  I found out that Marconi invented the radio in the early 1900's, however even when he started it it was not used as we know it today becuase they mainly used it for communication purposes.

Disc Jockey interview

I went and interviewed Joe Sanchez who was the program director at Lite 97.5 in Martinsburg. The reason why I decided to interview him was becuase I work part time with the station,  and I knew that he would be the best person to interview since he has been in radio for 20 years. One of the things that he said that interested me was that for radio to survive it needs to become more vocal in the community, which is true becuase radio does not get many listeners now becuase mostly people listen to either CDs or Ipods today.

Ideas for podcasts

For my five podcasts I have found five key ideas that could incorporate the history of radio, the first one will be the begining and how it started. The second one will be the way that radio was effected by televsion. The third one will be about the different rules of radio. The fourth will be the differnt changes that radio has gone through will satalite raido and internet radio. The final one will be the future of radio and I am planning on interviewing a disck jockey as well.

Capstone Idea

For my senior capstone I decieded to do five differnt podcasts that explors the history of radio from the begining all the way to the present. This will be interesting for me becuause I am thinking about going into radio after I graduate from Shepherd.

Usability

I found an article about different guidelines that need to be followed to make websites that are intended for teenagers from the age of 12 to 17. The article explained the different source material websites ranging from government websites, to retail stores. I think that it is important for these websites to be easily accessable to teens becuase they are the main demographic using these sites, and another reason why this is important is becuase it might be a good oportunity to find a job that they will like to have in the future. They could even use the sties designd for education to look up what college and career they want after high school.
